Read status

F8 opens Git. Uses system Git and shows branch, upstream, ahead/behind and staged/local groups. A path may appear in both. No remote means upstream was unresolved, not necessarily that no remotes exist.

If the folder belongs to a repository, that scope is retained. Otherwise it discovers nonignored nested repositories, skipping node_modules, .git and links: one is selected automatically or Enter chooses among several. Without repositories or Git, integration is unavailable.

Nested repositories

With several repositories, Esc from changes returns to the list and Enter selects another. Shift+F9/F9 opens history/branches for the selected repository; fetch, stage, commit, pull and push use that scope too. Diff tabs distinguish repositories; F4 and discard resolve files inside the open workspace.

Discovery finds .git entries without descending below a found repository. It does not detect an external worktree without .git in that folder or combine repositories in a commit.

From a change to a commit

  1. Save the document. Git and diffs read disk/index, not the pending buffer.
  2. Select a file and press Enter to review its diff. F4 opens the current file without closing the diff.
  3. Select a file, folder or change group and press + to stage. In staged, - removes it from the index.
  4. Navigate to the message field, type and press Enter. Requires a nonempty message and visible staged changes.

Discard changes

- on local changes opens confirmation. Tracked files are restored from the index; untracked files are deleted. Affected dirty tabs block the operation. Targets are captured when opening the confirmation.

A multi-file discard is not transactional: a failure can leave it partially applied. There is no line/hunk staging, specialized conflict resolution or Git undo.

Fetch, pull and push

The Changes footer offers stage, unstage, discard with confirmation, pull, push, history and branch buttons. Commit requires a message and staged changes. Mutations are blocked in historical views and during incompatible activity. F7/F8 still toggle panes.

autoRefresh watches the folder with debounce, no remote polling and no internal .git/ events. Fetch/pull/push inherit Git hooks, filters and helpers; they have no own timeout or cancellation.

ActionBehavior
F5Fetch according to settings and local reading even if fetch fails; refresh history/branches.
F6git pull using Git configuration; may modify the whole repository.
Shift+F6git push using external remote and credentials; also from the palette.
